Impaction Information for the BIOL BS Program

The BIOL BS major has been declared an impacted program. Beginning Fall 2014, supplementary admission criteria will be used for incoming freshman, transfer students, and students changing majors. for general information on impaction, visit the University's Impaction Information web pages.

Admission Criteria for First-Time Freshman

First-time freshmen who have been admitted to the University and who select Biology as their major on CSU Mentor will be matriculated as Biology majors if they meet all of the following requirements:

  • Minimum High School CSU College Prep GPA of 3.00;
  • Minimum SAT (Math and Critical Reading only) score of 900, or an ACT Composite score of 20;
  • The Campus Impaction Admission Criteria.

Criteria for Upper Division Continuing or Transfer Students

Upper division continuing students who wish to change their major to Biology or transfer students who want to enter the BIOL BS program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75;
  • Completion of General Chemistry I-II (CHEM 1100-1110) or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better in each course;
  • Completion of Precalculus for Life Sciences (MATH 1050) or Mathematical Analysis I (MATH 1081) + Discrete Mathematical Models (MATH 1085) or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better.

Criteria for Lower Division Continuing Students

Lower Division continuing students who wish to be accepted as Biology majors must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.25;
  • Completion of Principles of Biology I (BIOL 1100) or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better;
  • Completion of General Chemistry I (CHEM 1100) or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better;
  • Completion of Precalculus for Life Sciences (MATH 1050) or Mathematical Analysis I (MATH 1081) + Discrete Mathematical Models (MATH 1085) or equivalent with a grade of "C" or better
