Kapono

“The College of Education would like to welcome its first Humanoid Robot, "Nao," nicknamed, "Kapono" to the college. Thanks to the support of Dr. Cheryl Ney, the Dean of the College of Education, "Kapono" has joined the college as part of the COE's MakerSpace and will serve to enhance the college’s academic research and STEM education. “Kapono” is derived from the Hawaiian name meaning "the Ethical One." Kapono” is imagined and manufactured by Aldebaran robotics, owned by parent company Softbank Mobile of Japan. It stands 23.5 inches tall, weighs 9.5 lbs, sports 4 microphones, several tactical sensors located on the head, hands, and feet. “Kapono” can also be connected to the internet. There are currently 7,000 of these robots in distribution throughout the world, working in education, hospitality, retail, as well as in medical sectors.”
