Dr. James Paul Gee of Arizona State University will deliver the David L. Kubal Memorial Lecture on Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Golden Eagle Ballroom (map to this event). The title of his lecture is "Language, Learning, and Digital Media in a Dangerous Age." The lecture is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30pm, and refreshments will be served. There may be a nominal fee for parking.
James Paul Gee is the Mary Lou Fulton Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies and Regents’ Professor at Arizona State University. He is a member of the National Academy of Education. His books include: Sociolinguistics and Literacies (Fourth Edition 2011); An Introduction to Discourse Analysis (Third Edition 2011); What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy (Second Edition 2007); How to Do Discourse Analysis (2011); Women and Gaming: The Sims and 21st Century Learning (2010) and Language and Learning in the Digital World (2011), both written with Elizabeth Hayes. The Anti-Education Era: Creating Smarter Students through Digital Media appeared in 2013. Prof. Gee has published widely in journals in linguistics, psychology, the social sciences, and education.
The David L. Kubal Memorial Lecture is an annual lecture sponsored by the CSULA Department of English. Dr. Gee's appearance is co-sponsored by the Charter College of Education and the College of Arts and Letters.
