Cal State LA is proud to offer a variety of choral ensembles for aspiring professional musicians. Conducted by Dr. Gukhui Han, these ensembles exhibit a high level of performance excellence. Each ensemble performs concerts both on and off campus, providing students with wide exposure to, and performance of, standard and contemporary choral literature. Our choir program participates in many educational outreach initiatives, offering choir students opportunities to attend rehearsals and concerts by prestigious organizations such as the LA Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Pacific Chorale.
We encourage students to commit to at least one academic year to enhance their musicianship, expand their repertoire, and engage in various activities to enrich their experience.
Chamber Singers (MUS 4259)
Meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:10pm-5:50pm, MUS 149. Chamber Singers is the University's premier choral ensemble. Comprised of the top singers, the ensemble performs several concerts and participates in many choral festivals each year. Enrollment in this group requires an audition, and competency in singing and sight-reading skills is recommended.
Concert Choir (MUS 3269)
Meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:00pm-1:40pm, MUS 149. Concert Choir is a non-auditioned choir open to all students at Cal State LA. This ensemble serves as a center for communal music experiences across the entire campus. Participation in this group allows students to enhance their musicianship, singing techniques, and sight-reading abilities while fostering a sense of community and cultivating friendships.
