Pan African Studies Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Establish a foundation for understanding and interpreting the historical world that produced the African diaspora in order to provide the groundwork for interpreting and analyzing the contemporary world that continues to be shaped by the politics, popular cultures, and social movements of Black populations.
 
2. Foster a socially responsive and applied Pan Africanism that is in partnership with the individuals, communities, and environments that are engaged, served, and studied in order to further the development of African people worldwide.

3. Provide a theoretical base of knowledge, exposure to methods of research, and context for analyzing and interpreting the African diasporic experience, all of which can be invaluable in further graduate studies and specific job and career choices.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the MA in Pan African Studies, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate an interdisciplinary understanding of the history, culture, and politics of Africans of the diaspora;
 
2. research, create, and apply approaches to addressing and demystifying issues facing African communities locally and globally; and
 
3. prepare for doctoral studies and professional careers in relevant areas.
