Featuring a talk by Professor Alisa Bierria, UCLA Department of Gender Studies, entitled Structural Racism Within Reason.

Alisa Bierria is an assistant professor in the Department of Gender Studies at UCLA. Her forthcoming book, Inconceivable Agency: Race, Gender Violence, and the Carceral Imagination, explores how intention is invented within structures of anti-Black racism, carceral reasoning, and gendered violence. She co-edited a two-volume collection, Abolition Feminisms (2022), and a special issue of Social Justice, “Community Accountability: Emerging Movements to Transform Violence” (2010). She has published widely in philosophical journals and other scholarly volumes, public anthologies, and op/eds. An advocate within the feminist anti-violence movement for over 20 years, Alisa has co-founded and co-led national organizations that lead research, policy, and political advocacy projects to end the criminalization of survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
