Some of you may know Belem Enciso as a mother, a friend, an advisor, a colleague, or all of the above. To the College of Business and Economics, Belem is not only the Interim Director for Student Success and Advising, but she is also alumni. She has earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Cal State LA. Because she truly enjoyed being a part of the Cal State LA family, she decided to work for this campus and serve students, like herself, who needed assistance and support.
Working in the Financial Aid Office, she was able to witness firsthand students’ need for advisement. As a first-generation student, Belem prides herself on being someone they can easily talk to so it is no surprise that “relating to those stories and providing resources” is Belem’s passion. Shortly after, Belem became a Scholarship Coordinator and by 2012, had found her way to the CBE as an Academic Advisor.
“At that moment, I was doing more of the financial advisement, but I noticed students need to be more knowledgeable, advised, and supported so that’s what made me pursue the role of an advisor for nearly 8 years,” Belem explained. She is currently the Interim Director for Student Success and Advising.
When Belem isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her two little girls and playing soccer in an all-female league.
