To know Miriam Herrera is to love her - not just for who she is, but what she does for the Cal State LA Community.
Her journey began at Highland Park Elementary School in Seattle, Washington, where she would work with elementary students and design intervention plans in Math and English.
Shortly after, she joined Cal State LA, working in the Charter College of Education for three years. Here, she coordinated events like Honors Convocation, Dean’s List mixers, and the annual fundraising dinner.
Seeking a new challenge, she knew the CBE would be a great place to learn and obtain new skills - and so she did. Miriam has coordinated internships for the past two semesters and has now taken a more prominent role in CBE Placement activities. She has coordinated a number of incredible information sessions for this year and has developed effective tracking of job opportunities within our CBE Placement.
Associate Dean Angela Young tells us, “Even in this remote environment, Miriam has ensured that career and networking opportunities are abundant and available to students.”
For Miriam, her favorite part about working at the CBE is definitely the people. “It’s great to see a group of people so focused on one common goal: student success.”
When she is not working, she is encouraging others to be environmentally friendly (as she is a Vegetarian of 12 years), looking for new Boba places to try and actively involved in a book club with her sister. They are currently reading “Wait Till Next Year” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
She hopes to one day live in another country, fly an airplane, and run a marathon - and as hardworking as she is, I am certain she will.
