The Chicana/o Latina/o Student Resource Center will host an interactive workshop and critical discussion that delves into the true history of Cinco de Mayo. This event goes beyond the common misconceptions and commercialized celebrations to explore the Battle of Puebla’s historical significance and its connection to Chicano activism in the U.S. Through a collaborative workshop, participants will critically analyze the portrayal of Mexican culture in media and discuss how to honor the holiday with authenticity and respect. Students will engage in meaningful dialogue that highlights Mexican resilience, challenges stereotypes, and fosters cultural appreciation. This is more than a celebration—it’s an opportunity to reclaim the narrative and reflect on the deeper meaning of Cinco de Mayo.
