This is the first broadly conceived ceramic exhibition presenting a range of contemporary ceramics at the Silverman Gallery. The exhibition "EARTH & EMBER" features ceramic artists, half of whom are internationally renowned and contributed to ceramic education, and the other half are graduates of Cal State LA, dating from the late 1980s to the present. This exhibition has been an ongoing process of inviting artists to gather artworks from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation (Ken Price, Pablo Picasso, Peter Voulkos), Beatrice Wood Center for the Art, Studios of Adrian Saxe, John Mason, Luis Bermudez, Peter Shire, Roger Herman, Thomas Muller, Tony Marsh, local galleries, individual artists, and private collectors. There will be an exhibition catalog. The curator, Brenda Starks, a ceramist and ceramic educator, is a Cal State LA ceramic arts MFA graduate. Darren Alvarez is a current Cal State LA studio arts undergraduate student focusing on ceramics and one of the current Silverman Gallery interns.
