Join the Central American Historical & Ancestral Society of California (CAHAAS) and the UCI History Project on Thursday, October 10th, from 6-8 PM, as we celebrate Teach Central America week with the Latin American Studies department and the University Library Special Collections & Archives at CSULA to hear about the various community efforts aimed at documenting and celebrating Central American history in Los Angeles. This year we are honored to highlight the community work of Dora Magaña (Nurse practitioner and artist) and Ricardo O’Meany (Salvadoran painter and activist). Participants will be able to tour a student-curated exhibit about Dora’s life as well as explore additional primary sources housed in CSULA’s special collections.

Moderator Cindy Mata (UCI) will be joined by CSULA professors - Enrique Ochoa, Alex Villalpando, Leda Ramos, and CAHAAS co-founder, Claudia Portillo to highlight some of Los Angeles’ Central American history and preservation efforts. Additionally, Azalea Camacho, Head of Special Collections and Archives will walk us through the student exhibit and archives, featuring the narratives of our community.
