Marina Mondin is Full Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at California State University, Los Angeles. Her current interests are in the area of signal and image processing for communications and physics, simulation of communication systems, quantum communication and modulation and coding. She holds five patents.
She is currently the Principal Investigator (PI) for the NATO grant SPS G6026 “Implementation vulnerabilities in QKD components for fiber and drone applications", involving California State University, INRIM (Istituto Nazionale di RIcerca Metrologica, Italy), and BGU (Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel).
She is also the PI of the CalStateLA LIGO group, and the scientific coordinator of the Erasmus+ exchange program between CalStateLA and Politecnico di Torino (Italy).
She is Co.PI for the period 2020-2026 of the NSF grant "Collaborative Research: Center for Coatings Research" involving, among others, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, University of Florida and Colorado State University.
She has been Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-I from 2011 to 2014. She has been acting as a reviewer for several international scientific IEEE and IEE journals, she has been Guest Editor for the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking (2009) and the International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (2009 and 2010), and she has been member of the technical-scientific committees of various international conferences, such as ICC (2023-2017), SNeS 2012, ICT 2009 and 2010, ISWCS 2010, Spacomm 2009, 2010 and 2011, Mobilight 2010, ICT 2009, Tridentcom 2008, Globecom (2023-2020, 2006), Eusipco 2006, WHAPS 2005, WPMC 2004.
She has organized an invited session on QKD at the conferences ISABEL 2010 and ISABEL 2011.
She has been in the 2012 TCAS committee for the selection of the Darlington and Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Awards, and an evaluator for the Christian Doppler Research Association.
She has been principal Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications of Politecnico di Torino University, Italy, from the Fall of 1989 to the Spring of 2016. She has been principal investigator for Politecnico di Torino in several national PRIN projects, funded by the Italian Ministry of Research and University, concerning the integration of satellites and high altitude platforms for broadband data transmission, she has been the National Coordinator of the PRIN 2007 project “Feasibility study of a Earth-satellite quantum optical communication channel”, and Co-PI for the NATO Collaborative Linkage Grant “Quantum photonics for secure quantum communication”, involving INRIM, Politecnico di Torino, Lomonosov Moscow State Univ. and California State Univ., Los Angeles.
From 2017 to 2021 she has been PI for the NATO grant SPS G5263 "Analysis, design and implementation of an end-to-end 400 km QKD link", CSULA, INRIM, BGU and the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (Pakistan), and from 2013 to 2015 she has been P.I. for the NATO grant SfP- 984397 “Secure Communication Using Quantum Information Systems”, involving CSULA, INRIM, Politecnico di Torino, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics (Ukraine) and the Institute of Solid State Physics (Moscow).
Prof. Mondin has authored and co-authored more than 180 publications on international journals and conferences. She has also coauthored the books ``Esercizi risolti di Comunicazioni Elettriche,'' CLUT (Cooperativa Libraria Universitaria Torinese), Torino, March 1997 and "Elaborazione Numerica dei Segnali", Pearson, 2007 (both in Italian).
