The mission of General Accounting is to serve as a support function to the California State University, Los Angeles campus community's goals and objectives.
Goals
Build on our monthly reconciliation processes to ensure timely review of transactions to safeguard the University’s assets, ensure financial integrity, and policy compliance. Provide insightful, useful analyses and reports to management to aid in decision making and identification of potential issues. Ensure timely compliance with CSU and governmental reporting requirements.
Service Excellence
- Commitment to reviewing processes to ensure steps are ‘value adding’ for our customers and stake holders.
- Commitment to customer service level standards, such as turn around times, with measurements to ensure performance.
Work Smarter
- Review current business processes and PeopleSoft for potential improvements.
- Payroll adjustments/corrections, expense transfers
- Develop holistic reconciliation process to ensure financial integrity of our records
- Ensure every balance sheet account on ledger has an effective reconciliation to ensure University assets are safeguarded
- Perform regular fluctuation analysis to identify any unusual activity
- Ensure timely resolution of reconciling items
- Indentify Year-End Tasks which can be prepared during the year.
- Chartfield Procedures and usage review.
Team Building
- Increased collaboration with internal and external department team members.
- Establish crossfunctional team meetings within the Controller’s Office
- Make use of resources such as Operation’s training and facilitation of team building.
Professional Development
- Increased training opportunities to invest in our staff’s development and knowledge of University topics
- Understanding of all aspects of the CSU Legal Manual
