Jean Burden Will Read at Cal State L.A.'s Poetry Series Established in Her Name

Cal State L.A. will present a reading by poet Jean Burden at the University's 12th Annual Jean Burden Poetry Reading, a series established in 1986 to honor Jean Burden for her influence as a poet, essayist, anthologist, teacher and editor, and for her long-standing support of poetry on the Cal State L.A. campus.
When:
Thursday, May 15, 1997, 7 p.m.
Where:
Cal State L.A. Music Hall. The University is located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways.
Poet:
Jean Burden is known internationally for her published anthologies and books of poems and essays. In addition, Burden has been the poetry editor of Yankee magazine for more than 40 years.

This increasingly popular event features a reading by such major and emerging American poets as Maxine Kumin, Tess Gallagher, Lucille Clifton, Carolyn Kizer, Howard Nemerov and Mark Strand. Reading last year was multiple Pulitzer Prize winner and United States Poet Laureate Richard Wilbur.
