Significations 2016

The English Department and the English Graduate Student Association at California State University, Los Angeles will host its annual graduate studies conference, Significations, on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 8:30am-5pm on the Cal State LA campus. This year's keynote speakers are Dr. James J. Berg, Associate Dean for Faculty at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY), and Dr. Chris Freeman of the University of Southern California.

Dr. James J. Berg received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and is Associate Dean for Faculty at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY). Dr. Chris Freeman received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and teaches in the English Department at the University of Southern California. Dr. Berg’s and Dr. Freeman’s most recent book The American Isherwood (2015), a ground breaking work on Queer Studies, explores Christopher Isherwood’s personal and published works when he lived in Los Angeles, California. They have co-edited other books on Christopher Isherwood, including Conversations with Christopher Isherwood (2001) and The Isherwood Century: Essays on The Life and Work of Christopher Isherwood (2000), which won a Lambda Literary Award for Gay Studies in 2001. The title of their keynote address is:  "'Remote and Obscure': Isherwood and Los Angeles."
