Introduction

In the event of an emergency situation caused by various factors (e.g. natural disasters, power outages, campus safety concerns) your ability to continue your class in the manner that you've planned may be impacted. This webpage helps you find alternatives for these situations so that you can keep holding your class during an unanticipated disruption or emergency campus closure.

Consider Using The Canvas App

For access to your course on the go, consider downloading and installing the Canvas Teacher app for smartphones and tablets. Consider encouraging students to download the Canvas Student app.

Note: When signing in to the app, search for CalStateLA when asked to find your school.

  • The CETL Helpdesk can be reached via Zoom and email

To assist faculty in adapting their instruction to alternative modes, CETL's staff will be augmented by a team of Cal State LA Faculty experienced in teaching and designing online:

  • Dr. Kamran Afary (Communication Studies)
  • Dr. Kriz Bezdecny (GeoSciences)
  • Dr. James Sera (Anthropology)
  • Kara Masek (Music)
  • Sharona Krinsky (Mathematics)
  • Arcadia Le Vias (Pan African Studies)
  • Dr. Carl Schottmiller (Liberal Studies) Specializing in accessibility concerns
  • Dr. Margaret Finnegan (Criminalistics) Specializing in reading and writing concerns

Faculty Peer Mentors are available via Zoom Drop-In Support. Click here for current hours and to access this service.

Remember that all Cal State LA faculty are already enrolled in a self-paced Canvas course for Instructors to familiarize yourself with Canvas from the comfort of your own home or office. All instructors also have access to a Canvas sandbox as a staging area for any course content, or to use during Canvas training.

Please visit the following links to verify whether these systems or services fully operational or to verify any outages.
