Albert Cervantes ('07)
Software Engineer, Google
Albert F. Cervantes is a Software Engineering Manager for Google LLC and has been with Google since May 2019. In his current role, Albert leads a team responsible for partner and user applications touching several product areas including maps, play store, payments, product experts, and more.
Prior to Google, Albert was an Adjunct Professor at California State University, Los Angeles, and Fullerton where he taught a variety of computer science courses. He served in this capacity for 12 years as he enjoys giving back to the university where he earned his own master's degree.
Additionally, Albert spent 9 years at Western Digital as a Senior Engineering Manager. At Western Digital, Albert’s teams delivered Western Digital’s first secure drive offerings and enabled WD to be a part of the Secure Content Storage Association. Albert also worked as a Staff Scientist at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he contributed to computational chemistry and physics efforts related to material science.
Albert earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at the University of California, Irvine (UCI ’04). Albert then went on to earn a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the California State University, Los Angeles (‘07). Albert was a recipient of the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, Bridges to the Doctorate (LSAMP-BD) fellowship, which afforded Albert the opportunity to conduct fully funded research in computer graphics and machine vision under the guidance of Dr. Elaine Kang, and Dr. Nancy Warter-Perez. Albert co-authored a paper with Dr. Kang which was published in the proceedings of the International Conference on Image Processing and Machine Vision.
In his spare time, Albert volunteers in two of Google’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs named Tech Exchange and Code University where he teaches computer science to underrepresented high school and college students in Oakland, CA, and Santa Clara, CA.
Albert is from La Puente, California, and currently resides in Covina, CA. He can code in more languages than he can speak. He is also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Albert is happily married to Usha, his wife, and is a father to three young children: Olivia, Sophia, and Aiden.
