Academic Programs
The Charter College of Education offers a wide range of programs for students wishing to earn an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in an education-related field, a credential leading to a career in teaching, counseling, school administration and other education-related areas, or a certificate to broaden professional skills and knowledge.

Undergraduate Degrees
The Charter College of Education offers undergraduate programs where students can earn a bachelor’s degrees in Rehabilitation Services, leading to a career in the field of rehabilitation and human services or Urban Learning, leading to preparation for a career as a teacher; the major includes the option to earn a teaching credential in elementary or special education as part of the program.
Urban Learning (Degree with Credential)
Cal State LA is now approved for Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) Preparation Programs (waiver) under 4 undergraduate academic majors, including Urban Learning.Students can waive subject matter competency or the CSET examinations via CTC-approved subject matter waiver programs.
Graduate Degrees
The Charter College of Education offers graduate degree programs with multiple options leading to Master of Arts degrees in Education, Special Education, Educational Administration and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages as well as a Master of Science degree in Counseling. In addition, we also offer two doctoral programs: an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and a Ph.D. in Special Education.

Teaching Credentials
The Charter College of Education offers teaching credential programs for the Multiple Subject (elementary school teaching), Single Subject (secondary school teaching), and Education Specialist (teaching students with disabilities) credentials.
The Education Specialist credential program offers teaching credential options in Early Childhood Special Education, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities, Physical and Health Impairments, and Visual Impairments and Blindness. (For individuals interested in teaching students with visual impairments, the Charter College of Education also offers the Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential in Orientation and Mobility - please see Professional Credentials tab).
The Charter College of Education also offers residency pathways in single subject and education specialist credentials. The undergraduate integrated teacher educator program (ITEP) as part of the B.A. in Urban Learning. Urban Learning majors can choose from the multiple subject option, an education specialist option, a dual accelerated option, or a 120 unit degree completion with elementary subject matter waiver option. The bilingual added authorization, adapted physical education added authorization and the added authorizations in orthopedic impairments and other health impairments are also offered. The college also offers a teacher education induction option for general and special educators looking to clear their preliminary credentials.
The college is no longer accepting applications to the Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential or the added authorization.

Professional Credentials
The Charter College of Education offers professional credential programs including the Administrative Services credential (Tier 1 and Tier 2), the Clinical Rehabilitative Services credential in orientation and mobility and the Pupil Personnel Services credential in school counseling and school psychology.

Added Authorizations
Added authorizations allow the holder to add one or more subjects or areas of specialization to his or her teaching credential. In addition to coursework, all added authorizations must comply with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) guidelines.

Supplemental Authorizations
Courses at the university may meet the requirements for receiving a supplemental authorization. CTC issues supplemental authorizations.
