Recognized student organizations should review and comply with the following rules and regulations governing student organizations. For more information, organizations should refer to the Executive Orders, University Administrative Procedures, and other policies referenced found in Section 6 of the Student Organization Handbook.
- A segment of the California State University, Los Angeles Mission Statement declares that the University "is committed to providing students with a balanced and well-rounded educational experience including co-curricular activities that contribute to personal enrichment, leadership development, and institutional pride. Student organizations, campus residence life, artistic events, multicultural events, intercollegiate athletics, and intramurals are designed to be a significant part of this experience." In keeping with the spirit of this Statement, the University encourages, promotes, coordinates, and sponsors campus-wide programs and services that improve the quality of campus life, foster human development and build a strong sense of community among its students, staff and faculty. Student organizations contribute to the sense of community among Cal State LA students, staff, and faculty. Students bring to campus a variety of interests previously acquired, and develop many new interests as members of the academic community. They shall be free to organize and join associations to promote their common interests.
- Regular voting membership in this student organization shall be open to all currently enrolled and continuing students of California State University, Los Angeles. An organization or its membership may not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, gender identification, ancestry, marital status, citizenship, political affiliation, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, covered veteran status, or any other classification that precludes a person from consideration as an individual, except in cases of fraternity and sorority organizations which are exempt by federal law from Title IX Regulations concerning discrimination on the basis of sex. - All members of the organization are required to comply with University Procedures including but not limited to the Administrative Procedure 019-Alcoholic Beverages, Standards for Student Conduct: Prohibition on Hazing, Interim CSU Policy Prohibiting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation, ICSUAM Policy 3141.01, Cal State LA Student Organization Funds Administration Policy and the University Rules Governing Student Organizations.”
- All students of California State University, Los Angeles shall be eligible for membership. Faculty, staff, and alumni of Cal State LA, as well as non-students may be considered for non-voting membership in this organization. Only currently enrolled or continuing students of Cal State LA may be voting members. (EO1068)
- The following statement must appear verbatim on all constitutions, bylaws, and printed publicity:
- “The actions and opinions of this organization do not necessarily reflect those of the students, staff, faculty, or administration of California State University, Los Angeles.” (Publicity Procedures)
- Your organization and its members may not represent yourselves as, or act on behalf of, California State University, Los Angeles, its students, faculty or administration (Title 5, California Code of Regulations, Section 41301[c]).
- Student organizations may not use official University letterhead stationery for organization correspondence (California State University, Los Angeles Administrative Procedure 004, section 7.0).
- In accordance with Cal State LA's graphic and identity standards, organizations who wish to include the university’s name with the name of their organization must adhere to the following formula:
- {Name of Organization} at California State University, Los Angeles.
- Other variations that do not follow the required formula will not be approved.
- The possession and/or consumption of alcohol on University property is strictly prohibited, except as stated in Administrative Procedure 019, “Use of Alcoholic Beverages on Campus,” and the Cal State LA “Housing Facilities Regulations.”
- Organization officers and members are financially responsible for any damage to, or loss of, University property. (Title 5, California Code of Regulations, Section 41301[f]).
- Student organizations are required to comply with all appropriate Federal, state and local laws and ordinances as well as all University and Associated Students, Inc., policies and procedures, which include the University Student Code of Conduct (Article 1.1, Title 5, California Code of Regulations, Section 41301, et. Seq.).
