Grading Spring 2020

Implications of Grading Choices During Spring 2020

  • No matter which choice you make, an F will be changed to a NC.
  • This is true for both undergraduates and graduate students
  • Your instructors will not know which grading choice you make
  • Instructors will grade you according to the syllabus • If you choose an alternate grading method, your grades will be changed in GET after the instructor has entered the earned grade
  • Deadline for making a choice of alternative grading is May 9
  • You do not need to do anything if you want to keep regular grading • You can make the same or different choices for each course
  • For ECST courses that require a C or better (as pre-req or for graduation), courses taken during Spring 2020 will be accepted with a grade of C- or CR

HOW TO CHOOSE?

If your priority is to pass the course (meaning you would rather get a D than repeat the course) No action is a better choice.

If your priority is GPA (meaning you would rather repeat the course than get a D), or the class requires C- or better to pass (as a prerequisite to the subsequent course), then:

  • ABC-/NC: allows you to work for a good grade while avoiding a D
  • CR/NC: won’t affect your GPA (either positively or negatively)

What if I do not withdraw from class but just stop showing up?
You will receive an Unauthorized Withdrawal (WU). This is just about the worst grade you can get this term; it will be calculated into your GPA as an F. An F may impact your financial aid. The WU grade will NOT be converted to NC. (View FAQ #14.)
