Welcome to Information Technology Services (ITS). We are committed to providing our students, faculty and staff with the appropriate technological tools and resources. The ITS department is under the leadership of Berhanu Tadesse, Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer.
Information Technology Services is comprised of six service-based units that support the University's ever-increasing use of current and emerging technologies.
ITS Universal Design Services - Accessibility provides proactive digital accessibility services to the campus community and contributes to the University's obligation to provide an accessible environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
Title II and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 and 508 of The Rehabilitation Act decree that Cal State LA must provide an accessible environment for our students. The University fulfills these obligations in two ways; in response to an individual accommodation request made by a student registered with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) and by proactively applying digital accessibility standards throughout our institution. The campus's proactive digital accessibility services are developed, maintained, and matured by ITS Accessibility.
Executive Order 1111; The California State University Board of Trustees Policy on Disability Support and Accommodations establishes the proactive obligations under Section IV. The March 8th, 2021, Memo outlines our campus responsibilities via the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI). ATI covers three priority areas of Web, Instructional Materials, and Procurement.
ITS Accessibility provides the following services to the campus community:
- Accessible remediation of digital content such as PDFs, Word, PowerPoint.
- Captioning, transcripts, and audio description of video assets, including captioning for live campus events.
- Web accessibility compliance, monitoring, and assistance.
- Accessible IT Procurement processes and procedures.
- Campus assistive technology and adaptive workstation standards.
- Interface accessibility review.
- IT assistance with accommodation requests through OSD and HR.
Cal State LA's Educational Technology Services (ETS) is responsible for harnessing the power of technology to enhance learning, streamline processes, and empower student success. We're a dedicated team passionate about providing faculty, staff, and students with the resources and support they need to thrive in a dynamic educational landscape.
Our services encompass the following key areas:
1. ITS Classroom and Campus Multimedia Services:
- Classroom Media Support: Ensure your lectures, presentations, and discussions are impactful with seamless audiovisual technology support in classrooms. We'll help you with everything from setup and troubleshooting to microphone placement and creative multimedia integration.
- Multimedia: ITS Multimedia Services provides Cal State LA faculty and staff with multimedia production and instructional technology support.
2. The Office of Enrollment Management Technology (EMT):
- EMT's expertise in supporting cutting-edge technologies like EAB, OnBase, and QLESS. We work tirelessly to ensure every student has a smooth and efficient journey from inquiry to graduation.
- Student Success Technology Tools: Empower your students to reach their full potential with access to powerful learning platforms like Navigate LA. We provide training and support for faculty and staff to effectively utilize these tools and foster a supportive learning environment.
- Enrollment Services Technology Support Unit.
Enterprise Applications contributes to the maintenance, access, storage and use of University information assets, and seeks creative and powerful methods of providing data to administrators for modeling and monitoring student success.
The unit is responsible for:
- Management of the University’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
- Campus Solutions and Human Resources (GET) system
- Support of all PeopleTools and application upgrades, maintenance packs and emergency fixes.
- Collaboration with University departments to develop efficient and innovative modification enhancements and fixes.
- User application security, as requested by data owners.
- Financials (CFS)
- Escalation of application and performance issues to CMS.
- User application security, as requested by data owners.
- GETmobile
- Implementation, enhancement and support of the GETmobile application.
- Campus Solutions and Human Resources (GET) system
- Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence
- Support of the RDS warehouse.
- Implementation, enhancement and maintenance of the Fullerton EPM/OBIEE system.
- Technical support for the Moodle Learning Management System.
- Identity Management
- Maintenance of MyCalStateLA ID.
- Support for the auto-creation of all new active directory (AD) accounts.
- Shibboleth and single-sign on (SSO) integration.
- Collaboration with University departments to provide technical integration support for third-party applications.
- Creation and maintenance of interfaces with third-party applications, including S4 Service Learning, Portfolium, Visual Zen Orientation, OnBase, College Scheduler, Ad Astra Scheduler, AcademicWorks, Jenzabar and EDI Transcript Transfer.
IT Client Support Services develops and manages the ITS services that interact and interface with all University constituents.
The unit is responsible for:
- The ITS Help Desk, which serves as the primary point of contact for University IT-related requests and issues.
- Operations and staffing of the five Open Access Labs – the Annex, Salazar Hall, Engineering and Technology (ECST), King Hall, and University-Student Union (U-SU).
- ITS marketing and communications, including emails, video, graphic, and social media.
- A full complement of on-demand training services on campus technology resources, including online and in-person educational and instructional materials for students, faculty and staff.
IT Infrastructure Services provides services ranging from technical architecture and design, to configuration and support of the wired and wireless networks, servers, campus email, telecommunications and desktop services. Four separate infrastructure groups deliver these services to a diverse constituency of students, faculty and staff.
The unit is responsible for:
- Baseline and Desktop Services
- Acquisition and refresh of Baseline desktop and laptop workstations.
- Software upgrades, patch management and security updates to over 4,600 Baseline PC and Mac workstations.
- Development and testing of Baseline workstation standards and University software images.
- Network and Telecommunication Services
- Design, architecture and implementation of wide area and local area networks providing high speed internet access.
- Wireless technology with over 1,100 access points to deliver University-wide anytime, anywhere access to the internet and local resources.
- Wired network connectivity to the classrooms, facilities and appliances that provide internet and intranet access.
- Operational support of network, technology and information security.
- Management of PBX telephone and voice mail services for over 4,300 lines.
- Data Center
- Development, architecture and implementation of storage, virtualization and environmental controls to support a dynamic data center environment.
- Administration, backup, recovery and continuous monitoring of over 540 central and department servers.
- Classroom Audio/Visual Media Support
- Support for Electronic Classrooms (ECs), Technology Enhanced Classrooms (TECs) and Media Enhanced Classrooms (MECs) with standardized consoles including PCs, document cameras, projectors and integrated controls.
In 2003, the University decreed that information security is an institutional priority and is everybody's responsibility. To support this directive, IT Security and Compliance serves as the administrative and educational entity that ensures the use of information technology and information assets at Cal State LA adhere to all state and federal statutory regulations and requirements, CSU information security policy, and University standards and guidelines.
The unit is responsible for:
- Development and maintenance of standards and guidelines related to technology and information security.
- Audit responses and audit compliance for ITS-managed systems.
- Vulnerability assessment scans of critical University and department systems.
- Annual performance of University-wide IT risk assessments.
- Oversight of all campus Information Security Programs.
- Information security awareness training and campaigns.
- Management of security incident responses and the Campus Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) Plan.
- Annual review of the ITS disaster recovery and ITS business continuity plans.
- Participation on the Chancellor’s Office Information Security Advisory Committee to discuss systemwide security concerns, legal requirements, policies, procedures, standards and requirements.
